Mission: Write an Animal Rights–Themed Message in Chalk

It’s time to take your advocacy to the streets—actually, to the sidewalk. 😆 Write an animal rights–themed message in chalk on a nearby sidewalk to help spread compassion in your neighborhood.

Why Chalk?

Chalking is a fun and easy outreach method you can use to plant animal-friendly seeds throughout your community, and it’s a great way to start convos with those walking by. You don’t need a large group of people or lots of props to have an impact—just grab a box of vegan sidewalk chalk (which wasn’t made using eggshells) and start getting artsy for animals. Pro tip: Chalk in a high-traffic area to get the most eyes on your message. 👀

Follow these tips to make your chalking as effective as possible:

  • Check the weather for rain or snow that may wash away your artwork.
  • Pick either a weekend or a day early in the school week so everyone can see the message throughout that entire week.
  • Don’t wear nice clothes—they’ll def get some chalk on them.
  • Use colors that will show up on the surface you chose. For example, yellow and white chalk may be hard to see on some surfaces in daylight.
  • It can be hard to come up with something on the spot, so plan your animal-friendly messages in advance.
