The Best of peta2’s 2024 Music Festival Experiences
ICYDK, we here at peta2 are huge music lovers. 🎶 We’ve been hitting the biggest festivals across the U.S. this year to meet other folks who care about animals and set them up for success as animal advocates. Check out these highlights to see what we do at festivals and why you should stop by our tent.
So What?! Music Festival (June 1 and 2, Fort Worth, Texas)
We debuted our “Your Sign to Save Animals” campaign at So What?! Music Festival, and the Fort Worth crowd loved it. Everyone was amped to get their advocacy horoscopes and pick out animal oracle cards. We had a blast showing everyone how to make our fortune tellers and gave out tons of free stickers to spread animal rights messages around the festival.
Four Chord Music Fest (June 22 and 23, Pittsburgh)
The weather was rough at Four Chord Music Fest, but that didn’t slow our team down! As soon as attendees heard “SeaWorld,” they were on board with our campaign. Our generation is well aware of how this abusement park keeps intelligent animals trapped in tiny tanks, so our “SeaWorld Sucks” crewnecks got a lot of attention. We also saw some fams with kids, so we made sure we gave them extra freebies—one kid even brought us some awesome drawings to say, “Thank you!”
Capulet Fest (June 28 and 29, Hartford, Connecticut)
The lineup for Capulet Fest included many Christian rock bands, so we had a lot of deep convos with members of the crowd about how religious beliefs relate to caring about animals. Many people, including performers we had a chance to meet, had great things to say about our campaigns—especially our anti-SeaWorld materials.
Day In Day Out (July 12–14, Seattle)
One of Seattle’s loudest and liveliest festivals of the year proved to be a perf place for leafleting. Our booth was in a prime position for foot traffic and the opportunity to talk about saving animals to performers and attendees, including the vegan band Lemon Boy. This crowd was particularly supportive of our anti-SeaWorld messages, since orcas come to the Pacific Northwest area naturally. They know that orcas should be free to spend their lives with their families in the ocean, where they can swim up to 150 miles a day.
Capitol Hill Block Party (July 19–21, Seattle)
At Capitol Hill Block Party, thousands of attendees flocked to the streets to see artists like Chappell Roan and Remi Wolf, and our team was there to inspire the crowd to take action for animals by texting in to our “Your Sign to Save Animals” campaign and following it. We were also able to send gifts, including “Everyone Deserves Empathy” tote bags and peta2 T-shirts, to several of the performers.
North Coast Music Festival (August 30–September 1, Chicago)
The scene at North Coast Music Festival was all about love, so it’s no surprise we were a hit. More than 1,200 people texted in to our celestial campaign and adored the free oracle cards, wristbands, and holographic zodiac stickers. Netsky wore our “Adopt—Never Buy” cat T-shirt during his set and shared pics and vids on Insta. This got the message out to a huge audience that people should always adopt animals and that buying them only supports breeders while an animal in a shelter or on the streets misses out on a chance at a loving home. 😢
Ohio Is For Lovers (September 7, Cincinnati)
The Cincinnati crowd was super-receptive to our campaigns and thanked us for what we do to help animals. Folks were drawn in by our free “Everyone Deserves Empathy” koozies, and we had great conversations with people who had misconceptions about being vegan, giving them insight into the awesome reality of animal-friendly living. This festival was the perfect scene for our merch collab with Be Humane Apparel. The crowd loved the T-shirts!
Riot Fest (September 20–22, Chicago)
At Riot Fest, we met music fans of all ages who were excited about getting active for animals in different ways. People were super-supportive of our anti-SeaWorld campaign and made sure to share their thoughts about the marine park while using language that was NSFW. It was a revolutionary weekend filled with loud punk music, combat boots, and lots of friendly faces.
All Things Go (September 28 and 29, Columbia, Maryland)
Our fall tour wrapped up on a high note at All Things Go, where the temps were hot and the vibes were warm. Our celestial campaign themes fit right in with the festival’s energy, attendees told us, and proved to be an exciting way to inspire the next generation of young animal advocates. The numbers for this event were off the charts—with over 2,000 mobile sign-ups and over 10,000 freebies handed out. 🤯
