Starbucks Drops Vegan Milk Surcharge! See How Students Demanded It
In a major victory for cows, the environment, and human health, Starbucks is dropping its U.S. vegan milk upcharge, effective November 7! Big thanks to everyone who spoke up for cows through bold protests and student sit-ins and by signing our petition. 🎉🐮
Starbucks is a top purchaser of cow’s milk and had prioritized it above all plant-based milks. The dairy industry exploits mother cows and then kills them once they’re no longer profitable. Cows subjected to this abuse are forcibly inseminated, their calves are torn away from them within hours of birth, and they’re often milked until they’re sore. Then they are killed and end up on someone’s plate. Customers who want to help oppressed cows by requesting vegan milk at Starbucks will no longer be penalized by an extra fee. 💚
Beginning in 2019, students across the country held sit-ins demanding that Starbucks end its vegan milk upcharge, sending an important message: The dairy industry is harmful asf.
Students held these peaceful sit-ins in several cities, including Boulder, Colorado; Brentwood, Cupertino, and Los Angeles, California; Elmira, New York; Orlando, Florida; and Pittsburgh, to inform the public and raise awareness of the horrors of the dairy industry.
