Mission: Show Everyone Why They Shouldn’t Make a Holiday Ham
Celebrating the holidays by making tasty food with your loved ones is normal and fun. Here’s what’s not normal: Paying for pigs to be held in constant confinement and then slaughtered at just six months old for a holiday ham. 😢
The Truth About Holiday Ham
Eating ham for the holidays is harmful to pigs and straight-up weird. It’s not normal to sit around a dead pig with your family. It’s not normal to keep a mom from her children and confine her to a cramped metal crate where she can’t turn around or lie down comfortably. It’s not normal to eat a baby—yet if you eat ham, that’s exactly what you’re doing. 😨
Pigs can naturally live up to 15 years, bond with humans, enjoy playing games, and even like a nice massage. But on factory farms, they’re forced to live amid their poop and vomit—and sometimes even the dead bodies of other pigs. By the time these pigs are killed, many of them have lung lesions caused by pneumonia.
And don’t be fooled by labels like “humane meat.” Almost every “humane” factory farm PETA has investigated has engaged in many of the same cruel industry practices as other factory farms. Giving animals a few more inches of living space is simply not enough.
