How Are Male Animals Exploited?
On farms around the world, animals face severe discrimination based on their sex. Whether it’s bc male animals don’t produce the same substances as females or are seen as breeding necessities, they’re forced to suffer for corporations’ profit. 😡 As messed-up as this is, it doesn’t have to be this way—here’s everything you need to know to help make a change:
Chicks Killed Immediately
Since male chickens can’t lay eggs, they’re considered useless to the egg industry. Male chicks are hatched in incubators and quickly taken away without ever getting a chance to see their moms. They’re then either left to suffocate to death in trash bags or ground up alive. 😰 Over 260 million are killed in the U.S. egg industry every year.
Calves Deprived for Veal
Like male chicks, male calves are seen as having no value to the dairy industry since they don’t produce milk. Some are shipped off to slaughter right away, while others are kept in tiny, dark crates so that their flesh stays tender and can be sold as veal. Calves used for veal are fed a liquid, low-iron diet that makes them sick af. They’re killed after only a few months of being trapped, terrified, and desperate for their moms.

Electroejaculation
Male animals are often sexually assaulted to produce generations of prisoners. In a process known as “electroejaculation,” an animal like a bull is restrained while a farmer inserts a probe into his anus. The probe then gives the bull electric shocks, causing him to involuntarily ejaculate as he kicks and screams in pain. 😱 Oh, btw, the farmer usually doesn’t give the bull any painkillers for this hellish process.

Mutilation
About 33 million sheep—most of them lambs—are killed for their flesh every year in Australia. While both males and females endure painful mutilations, males suffer through the specific pain of castration (aka having their testicles cut off). Their final moments of life are spent in a slaughterhouse surrounded by the stench of blood and poop and the screams of their friends.

Force-Feeding Frenzy
To produce “foie gras,” workers ram pipes down the throats of male ducks and geese multiple times daily and pump grain and fat into their stomachs. This causes the birds’ livers to swell up to 10 times their normal size, and many have trouble standing up. They’re kept in crowded, filthy cages or sheds and suffer from infections, lesions, fractures, and other health problems. Those who don’t die from these problems are slaughtered for their fattened livers.

How You Can Help
Why are male animals exploited like this? It’s all about the $$$. Animal agriculture corporations want your hard-earned dough, so they lie to you by saying milk is essential or that animals are treated “humanely.” Don’t buy into the B.S.—we never need to eat animal-derived foods to be healthy or build muscle, and animals used for food are never treated as anything more than objects. 🙅
The best way to help save male animals from being abused and killed is by going vegan. Switching to non-dairy milk, plant protein, and vegan desserts keeps money away from cruel industries. Going vegan is also great for your skin, stomach, and endurance. Take our vegan pledge to get a free Guide to Going Vegan—trust us, it’s so much easier to make the switch with the right support!

Being an animal advocate takes strength and courage and bolsters your independence. In other words, it’s one of the most masculine things you can do.
