Mission: Oregon Health & Science University Is Mutilating Pigs—Let’s Permanently End This Horror
For years, doctors-in-training at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in Portland, Oregon, have been cutting into live pigs. 😨 The school has used the animals as stand-ins for humans in its obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN) physician residency training program and then killed the pigs who make it through the training alive. Practicing on pigs is cruel and completely pointless—we’re pretty sure a university dedicated to health and science should know that pigs and humans have very different bodies. That’s health and science 101. 🤔
We have exciting news, though—new public records obtained by PETA show that our vigorous campaign is working. 🥳 OHSU officials now say, “The pig lab will not occur this year [in 2024] due to decreased enthusiasm from the Chief resident class,” and they are doing a “department review … to study the utility of the pig lab,” the result of which “will determine whether it will continue.”
This is great progress, but we can’t stop now—please help us get OHSU to permanently ban the use of live animals for OB/GYN physician residency training! Take action and earn peta2 points in our Rewards Program. (Heads-up: You’ll only be awarded points for one action.)

Please Permanently Stop Using Live Animals in OB/GYN Residency Training
Hello,
In the wake of OHSU’s cancellation of its pig lab in 2024 due to its acknowledgement of “decreased enthusiasm from the Chief resident class” for this cruelty, I urge you in the strongest possible terms to please adopt a public policy permanently banning the use of live animals in OHSU’s obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN) physician residency training program.
Superior animal-free human simulators are available. They are cheaper in the long run and are being used—instead of animals—by OB/GYN physician residency training programs at Henry Ford Health, Rush University, Aurora Sinai Medical Center, and many other institutions.
Thank you for your time and attention.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
