How to Make a Vegan Pizza at Home

You know what’s just as fun as eating vegan pizza? 🤔 Making vegan pizza! 😁 Ong, it’s so satisfying and simple if you make sure you have all the ingredients, equipment, and time needed. Once you’re ready to roll, follow these six steps to make a delicious vegan pizza at home:

1. The Crust

Every great vegan pizza starts with a top-tier crust. 👌 If you want to make yours from scratch, use these ingredients and follow the directions below:

1 1/4 cups whole wheat flour
1/4 cup high-gluten flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 Tbsp. fast-rising yeast
2/3–3/4 cup very warm tap water (about 105ºF)

  • In a food processor fitted with a metal “S” blade, mix the whole wheat flour, high-gluten flour, salt, and yeast. Pulse on and off to blend. With the machine running, slowly start pouring the warm water through the feed tube. Stop adding water as the dough forms a ball.
  • Turn off the machine and put your hand in the dough. It should be sticky, stretchy, and pretty wet. If it’s dry, add another tablespoonful of water. If it’s overly wet, add flour as needed. Knead the dough for about 40 seconds. Put the dough on a well-floured board and let it sit for 2 minutes. Then roll it out to a diameter of 13 to 14 inches.

If you’d rather get a store-bought crust, many of them are vegan—just check the ingredients to look out for eggs, milk, or honey. Here are some great vegan crusts to try:

2. The Sauce

Next comes the sauce, and we have good news for you—most tomato sauces are already vegan. 😅 Always check the ingredient list for milk or any other animal-derived foods to be safe, but you’ll prob find a ton of 100% vegan tomato sauces out there. Try spreading one of these on top of your crust:

Do you think white sauce > red sauce? There’s good news here, too: Primal Kitchen makes a delicious No-Dairy White Pizza Sauce with creamy pumpkin seed butter, avocado oil, roasted garlic, and other animal-friendly ingredients. 😲 With no cholesterol or added sugar, this white sauce is the right sauce.

3. Cheese

The vegan cheesier the pizza, the better—amirite? 🤷 Nonvegan cheese props up the dairy industry, which separates cows from their babies, keeps them in cramped conditions, and sends them to slaughter when they’re no longer seen as profitable. 😢🐮 Buying vegan cheese shreds from Daiya, Field Roast, Violife, or any of the other brands on our list helps bring down the cruel dairy industry. 👏

4. Veggies

So many nutritious vegetables work like magic on pizza. 🧙 You can go with artichokes, mushrooms, spinach, broccoli, and olives for tasty, time-tested toppings. Feeling more adventurous? Some people like bell peppers, corn, or potatoes on their pizza, and there are countless other veggie creations waiting to happen. 🤯 Just choose your faves, cut them up, and stick them on.

5. Meats

It’s never been easier to get mouthwatering vegan meats. 😏 Enjoying vegan meat is infinitely better than chowing down on animal flesh—it helps save animals, protect the environment, and boost your health. 🙌 Top your pizza with vegan bacon, pepperoni, sausage, and other offerings from 🔥 brands like Beyond Meat, Gardein, and Morningstar Farms. 6. Bake and Enjoy

Got your pizza loaded up with all your toppings? Bake it in an oven preheated to 550ºF (yep, you read that right!) for about 10 minutes or until the cheese has melted and the crust begins to brown. That’s it! 🤩 Take the pizza out of the oven, let it cool, and enjoy your warm vegan delight knowing that your compassionate food choices helped cows, pigs, chickens, and other animals avoid suffering. 🐄🐖🐔❤️
