Vegan Vampire Tips That Will Have You Dying for More 🧛🖤

Being vegan and obsessed with vampires, I’m constantly looking for animal rights themes within the genre. We usually fall for loveable vampire characters because we admire the ones who try their best to live compassionately towards those around them despite how difficult it might be in their world. Sound familiar? 🥰

Living vegan is about doing the best we can to reduce suffering, even if society and big corporations are trying to convince us that consuming and mistreating animals is normal.

If you want to live a compassionate, vampiric life, here’s some advice I’ve picked up over the years from different fandoms:

1. Going vegan doesn’t suck! (sorry I had to) 🌱😋

Bella ordering a garden burger in Twilight is my Roman Empire. Vegan burgers are so much better for the animals, our health, and the environment.

And, yeah, Edward, humans can live a strong, healthy life on tofu! Because who else rolled their eyes when the Cullens claimed to be vegetarians but killed terrified, non-consenting animals? They could’ve just taken a page out of Elena Gilbert’s book and drank from blood bags. 😐

Unlike vampires, human canine teeth are not made to rip through someone’s raw skin. It might be a struggle for caring vampires who don’t want to hurt others, but luckily, we can easily make the compassionate choice to keep animal blood and flesh off our plates.

If you aren’t convinced yet, maybe some mind compulsion from Paul Wesley (Stefan Salvatore), Kat Graham (Bonnie Bennet), and Joseph Morgan (Klaus Mikaelson) (aka the hottest vegan vampires out there) will work. 🤭

2. We even have fang-tastic games (sorry x2) 🎮

Bored with immortality? Entertain yourself by playing Voltaire: The Vegan Vampire, an exciting game made for vegan vampires like you:

In this action-farming game, players take control of Voltaire—a rebellious vampire who abandons his taste for blood in favor of eating plant-based foods. Voltaire embarks on a whirlwind of exciting adventures to prove to his father—the infamously bloodthirsty vampire Dracula—that vampires can thrive on a no-kill diet.

3. Vamps are known for being drop-dead gorgeous (last pun, I promise) 💋

The prettiest thing you can do for animals is use cruelty-free makeup and only wear vegan clothing. Testing products on animals or using their skin as fabric will not help us achieve eternal beauty – but compassion certainly will. 💄

4. Werewolves can be friends 🐺

Depending on the franchise, vampires and werewolves may be enemies. But if you take a page out of Dracula’s book, wolves can be great friends. Nothing says vegan vampires like making kind choices for your companion animals. They’re only here for a few short years and rely on us to give them a happy and healthy life. Be in tune with their needs. 💗

With 70 million homeless animals in the U.S., there’s no such thing as an “ethical breeder,” so remember to always adopt. You can also help companion animals by writing to your representatives asking them to pass helpful policies in your area, like mandatory spay-neuter laws.

And remember, in real life, wild animals like wolves and hybrids are not “pets.”

5. Witches can do magic without using animals 🔮

Can we talk about the messed-up sacrificial magic in season one of The Originals? Encourage your witch friends to leave animals out of their spells because animals are not ours to use. You can tell them to check out Your Sign to Save Animals for inspo.

6. Visiting New Orleans, Louisiana? Covington, GA? Forks, Washington? Some old European town? ✈️🍽️

While traveling in your fave vampire cities, do a quick Google search for vegan options in the area! You’ll be surprised how many places offer compassionate food options, so you can enjoy the gothic vibes without hurting anyone.

You can even get blood bags (fruit punch) in Covington, GA (aka Mystic Falls) 🩸

7. Protect bats (and all wildlife) 🦇

If you’re a vegan vampire, your favorite animal is probably bats. Bats are the coolest, and we need to do our part to keep their habitats safe. Going vegan can also help wildlife because animal agriculture is destroying their homes

And if you come across an injured bat (or any injured animal), please contact your local police department immediately. If your local police department is unresponsive, call PETA immediately—day or night—at 757-622-7382, option 2. Or you may contact PETA by filling out our Report Cruelty to Animals form.

Remember, being a vegan vampire is about showing others that it’s possible to live compassionately towards other species. Use your powerful influence to ask representatives to implement protection laws for animals and guide more novice vegan vampires on their journey.
