Digital Activism Guide: How to Help Animals From Your Phone
One of the biggest perks of being an activist in 2025 is that you can help animals from your phone or computer! Digital activism is only getting more influential by the day, and we can harness its power to help get animals the wholesome lives they deserve. 🐔🐀🐬 Find out how to use the internet and social media to create change for animals by using this digital activism guide.

- Signing petitions

- Sharing your resolutions for animals online
- Commenting on targets’ social media pages
- Setting up an animal rights-themed wallpaper on your phone
Share Animals’ Stories
Most folks don’t know that Corky the orca was kidnapped from her ocean home in 1969 and has been forced to swim in tiny tanks ever since or that Cornelius the macaque was torn from his mom as an infant and is still trapped in a laboratory. 😰 By posting about their background on social media, you can make things personal for others and motivate them to speak up.
Spread Resources
Remember that you don’t have to do this alone. You can share many resources in group chats or the comment section to help others make kind choices for animals. Try some of the following:
- How to Shop for Animal-Friendly Fashion
- Order a FREE ‘Guide to Going Vegan’!
- How to Organize Your Own Protest
- How to Handle an Animal Emergency
- How to Help Shelters Help Animals
Stand Up to Trolls
Trolls in the comment section of an animal rights post can be super annoying, but there’s a better way to handle them than getting upset. Every dumb comment like “I can’t wait for that cow to end up on my plate” gives you the opportunity to turn the tables on the trolls. Clap back with some pre-written responses to show everyone that animal advocates have pure logic on our side.
Take Inspo From Others
A ton of young people are crushing the digital activism game. 🙌 Study their methods to see what works best and what you can use in your unique activism—the following are great sources for ideas:
- Genesis Butler @genesisbutler_
- Cody Dolan @cody_vegan
- Justice Owens @justiceohwins
Join and Start Campaigns
Take part in active animal rights campaigns by using appropriate hashtags and sharing petitions to boost engagement. You can also start your own campaign by creating a virtual petition, making a campaign website, and maintaining a strong social media presence. Check out our campaign guide’s “Instagram Tips” section to learn more.
Create Viral Posts
If you make an animal-friendly post go viral, it’s game over (in a good way). We’ve seen how viral posts can spread info that leads to systemic changes. You’ll want your post to be eye-catching, creative, and concise. Look at peta2’s most popular posts for ideas, or study your fave influencers to see what content makes the biggest impact.
Contact Lawmakers
When the law is unfair to animals, we do the same thing as other social justice movements: Help change the law. ⚖️ You can usually find your lawmaker’s phone number and e-mail on their website and reach out to them with a personal message. Plus, you can comment on their Instagram posts to call public attention to your animal-friendly request.
Attend Virtual Events and Trainings
Strong advocates know their stuff, so sign up for a virtual activism event or training and take notes on what you learn. Animal rights events and trainings are the most relevant, but you can apply lessons from any group to your advocacy goals.
Call Companies Out and Call People In
Don’t hold back on calling out companies that sell wool, lack vegan options, or keep animals in miserable confinement. Companies can do the right thing if they feel the pressure of public outrage. When it comes to individuals, though, calling them in is often way more effective. Invite them to get a taste of the animal rights movement to see what they’re missing.
