Mission: Urge Forever 21 to Stop Selling Feathers
If you’re busy shopping for a new prom fit, be on high alert 🚨: Some companies sell dresses and accessories made from animal-derived materials. 😡 For example, Forever 21 sells items made with feathers—and once you know where they come from, you’ll cross feathers off your list forever. ❌
What’s So Bad About Buying Feathers?
Feathers used for fringe and trims, shoes, earrings, cropped camis, tube tops, earrings, and other clothing and accessories come from terrified birds who were likely painfully live-plucked or killed for their flesh or skin. 😰🐦 Since feathers from chickens, turkeys, and other birds used in the meat industry are cheap and easy to find, they’re often dyed or altered and used in mass-produced items. Many farmers sell the feathers after sending the birds to slaughter. 😢
Workers at ostrich-slaughter companies electrically stun young ostriches and cut their throats before tearing out their feathers. Sometimes, workers rip out the feathers while the birds are still conscious. 😱 The ostriches’ skins might be sold to Hermès, Prada, Louis Vuitton, or other top European fashion houses to make “luxury” bags.
It’s clear af: Buying anything made with feathers props up cruelty to birds.
How to Help Birds
To help prevent birds from being abused and killed, buy only feather-free clothing and accessories for prom. That way, you can party all night without worrying that your celebration is coming at birds’ expense. 💃🎶🐦
Then follow these steps to urge Forever 21 to stop supporting cruelty to birds and earn 15 peta2 points in our Rewards Program 🤑:
1. Comment on one of Forever 21’s IG posts urging the company to stop selling feathers and to use only vegan materials, which it already does for many of its products. 💁
2. Take a screenshot of your comment and submit it for 15 peta2 points. (Heads-up: You’ll only get points once for taking this action.)
