Mission: Speak Up for Tortured Turkeys Using Free Tombstones

In nature, turkeys are protective and loving parents as well as spirited explorers who can climb trees and run as fast as 35 mph. But most turkeys slated to be killed for food are crammed into filthy warehouses, where disease, smothering, and heart attacks are common.

Each year, 46 million turkeys are killed in the U.S. just for Thanksgiving—and they suffer before they die. Some live turkeys have been kicked and their heads have been stomped on.

Oscar winner and long-time PETA friend Joaquin Phoenix lent his voice for PETA’s undercover exposé revealing horrific abuse of turkeys at Plainville Farms’ suppliers.

No matter what colorful, misleading labels they may have, plastic-wrapped turkeys are the corpses of tortured birds who didn’t want to be killed. If compassionate, honest people put these turkey tombstones on display, maybe next year people will give turkeys something to be thankful for by choosing vegan. Here’s what to do:

1. Print peta2’s turkey tombstone (or make your own). We have two versions of the tombstone, here and here.

2. Tape the tombstone to the turkey corpse your family has in the kitchen or one you see at a store.

3. Take a picture of your work and submit it for 25 peta2 points in our Rewards Program. (Heads-up: You’ll only be awarded points for taking this action once.)
