Mission: Urge the University of Washington to Stop Harming Monkeys

Insider info and documents we got our hands on show that the Washington National Primate Research Center (WaNPRC) at the University of Washington (UW) kills countless monkeys in pointless experiments—yet it still rakes in millions of dollars in funding. 😡 Urge UW to close the WaNPRC to earn 15 peta2 points in our Rewards Program!

Monkeys imprisoned at this cruel primate center have died from strangulation, starvation, dehydration, veterinary error, and choking on their own vomit. 😱 In one eight-month period, the center treated 332 traumatic injuries, including broken limbs and teeth, plus hundreds of other serious medical problems. Experimenters at the facility have done the following:

  • Torn baby monkeys away from their moms and stuck them in a cage all alone
  • Cut open pregnant monkeys and blocked their umbilical cords to stop the flow of blood and oxygen to the fetuses
  • Cut a hole in monkeys’ skulls, inserted electrodes in their brains, and bolted their heads in place so that they couldn’t move

Just like humans, monkeys can feel pain, joy, and fear. In nature, they live in large fam groups that play, eat, and explore together. They also have empathy and often risk their own lives to help others. Monkeys should be protected, not experimented on. 🐒

How to Earn peta2 Points

If enough of us speak up, we can get UW to close the WaNPRC and send the monkeys to legit sanctuaries where they can lead the fulfilling lives they deserve. Here’s how to do it:

1. Write an e-mail to university officials urging them to do the right thing and transfer the animals to reputable sanctuaries.
