Mission: Write Off Animal Dissection—Show Others Their Right to Refuse
Your teacher prob didn’t tell you that frogs and other animals are killed by dissection supply companies specifically to be cut apart in classrooms. Workers at Bio Corporation—a company that sells dead, preserved animals to schools—were caught injecting live crayfish with liquid latex, drowning crated pigeons, and admitting that they put live turtles into freezers to kill them. 😱
If you’ve ever been in a class that dissected animals, what did you notice? Was your teacher trying to make light of the situation by juggling frogs? Were some students messing around with the body parts or otherwise being completely disrespectful of the animals who’d been killed? 😞 Maybe your teacher even told you that the animals had been “ethically acquired,” which is complete cap (whether your teacher realized it at the time or not).
Here’s the good news: You may be able to refuse to dissect a dead animal and still secure that A. If you live in Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, or Washington, D.C., your teacher may be legally required to give you an alternative assignment if you ask. 🙌 You can say NO to dissecting animals and help prevent sentient beings from suffering by asking for one of the many cruelty-free, sophisticated, non-animal options.
If your state doesn’t have such a policy, you still don’t have to dissect animals. Hit us up at [email protected] and we can help you out.
