These Vegan Leather Jackets Serve Style Without Harming Cows

Cows form close bonds with each other, hold grudges, and mourn the loss of loved ones—but the leather industry keeps these social animals in miserable confinement and slaughters them for their skin 😱 You obvi don’t want to reward this cruelty, so check the labels when you’re shopping to avoid anything made with leather or suede (the underside of animals’ skin).

Not to mention that animal-derived leather is catastrophic for the environment. According to the Higg Materials Sustainability Index, leather made from cow skin contributes more to global warming, water pollution, water depletion, and greenhouse gas emissions than synthetic or vegan leather. Cow leather has nearly six times that of polyurethane, a synthetic vegan fabric.

Instead, go for clothing made with polyester, PU, rayon, and other materials, like these jackets:

1. Zara Faux Leather Bomber Jacket

Zara’s vegan leather jacket looks exactly like the real thing but doesn’t support an industry that skins cows—sometimes while they’re still alive and kicking. It’s made from polyester and polyurethane, two synthetic materials that prove we never need to harm animals for clothing.
